It's a Poison Plum kind of day!

I was thinking about what kind of look to do and realized how seldom I've used Sugarpill's Poison Plum from their Burning Hearts quad so I wanted to do something with that.

Also, I usually edit my pictures on picnik.com, which unfortunately is closing on April 19th so I knew I'd need a new way to edit my pictures so I downloaded a free trial of Photoshop.  I am really really really not good with computers.  So to edit my pictures today I followed, step by step, Meredith Jessica's photoshop tutorial.  I think they came out really well.  My eyes look so bright!  Generally when I'm editing my pictures, I edit the contrast so my black looks black like it does in person and every once in a while I'll edit the color temperature depending on my lighting.  Sometimes I slightly alter colors, but that's just to make them appear in my picture the way it does in real life.  So this was my first attempt at photoshop!!  Here's my look!

Here it is unedited, just so you can see the difference

Just a simple purple smokey eye!

What I used:
Lime Crime's Eyeshadow Helper
Sugarpill's Poison Plum
Urban Decay "Naked"
Urban Decay "Virgin" (both shadows from the Naked palette.  I told you I use this thing all the time!)
Bobbi Brown gel liner "Black Ink"
NYX "Black" shadow
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara

Lips:
Lime Crime "Coquette" lipstick
Revlon "Cupcake" lip butter

I had asked Meredith Jessica, Dawn, and Ronnie what they suggested I use to edit pictures and they all said photoshop haha.  Meredith Jessica kindly edited two of my pictures for me and they look so beautiful!  Look at these bad boys!  This is how I knew I had to give it a shot!

For this look I used:
Lime Crime Eyeshadow Helper
NYX JEP "Black Bean"
BFTE "Spellbound"
I can't remember for sure but either "Naked" or "Buck" from the Naked palette (I think it was Buck)
and MAC "Vanilla" pigment to highlight
L'oreal HIP "Black Shock" pencil liner
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara

Lips:
Lime Crime "Coquette" lipstick
Revlon "Creamsicle" lip butter

Face Makeup for both looks:
Carmindy for Sally Hansen Your Skin foundation "Porcelain"
Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation "Buff"
Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser "Fair"
Maybelline Super Stay 24/7 Concealer (2nd to lightest color)
Covergirl Professional loose powder "Translucent Fair"
ELF studio blush/bronzer duo
NYX "Peach" powder blush

So those are my looks for today!  I hope you like them as much as I do!  I hope you all have an incredible week!!  Thanks guys!!

  5. Love these looks. I've had my eye on Poison plum for a while but never purchased it since I have so many purples already.

    1. It's a pretty color but I honestly prefer a more blue purple so I think that's why I don't reach for it that often.

  6. Both looks are simply stunning! I'm really bad at editing my photos, so maybe I'll give Photoshop a try as well.

    1. Haha Meredith's tutorial was quite easy to follow, even for me!

  7. Great looks! An alternative to the traditional photoshop which runs $4-500 is photoshop elements. The full version runs about $90-100. Unless you're going to be doing a lot of heavy photo editing and manipulation like a professional graphic artist or photographer you don't really need the full version. I've used elements for years and have not run into problems.

  8. First of all: when 'editing' your pictures there was like NOTHING that needed editing. You have flawless makeup and skin to begin with. Second of all: I'm so happy that you found the tutorial easy to follow because the results are supremely gorgeous. I look forward to seeing all your amazing makeup in its full glory from now on.

    1. Sometimes my skin is against me and needs more work, just not this day haha. Yeah, for real, if I was able to follow your tutorial, anyone can! Thank you for that!!

  9. Love love both of these looks. In my personal opinion, though, you don't need to photoshop your skin so much (it looks alright in your edited version, but not the one Meredith did of you). I actually rarely visit Merediths blog, despite loving her looks, just because her very obviously non-porous-almost-glowing photoshopped skin is so distracting. I don't think anyone expects bloggers to have perfect skin, and maybe it's just me, but I like to look at fairly realistic pictures. I don't care about boosting brightness/contrast, and playing with the colors a bit to make it look more like it does in real life, but when it becomes so obvious a picture has been photoshopped, the looks seem more unattainable to do irl.

Just my two cents haha. You're gorgeous as it is <3

    1. I understand where you're coming from. For me, edited skin doesn't detract from looks because I understand why someone would want to edit their skin and it makes a look feel more polished. However, once someone starts manipulating makeup colors and adding things that weren't there at all to where it doesn't look like it does in real life, that bothers me. I don't think I'll edit my skin too much as I don't want to look super fake but sometimes I need a little help haha. Thank you very much!!

    2. Also (I forgot to say this) the whole reason I started wearing makeup is to make my skin look better. I don't want to rely on editing for that, I want my skills to be able to do most of the work.

    3. Typically I don't mind edited skin - I don't think any of us can deny doing that. It's just over-edited skin that bugs me. One reason is because if it's TOO much it just screams fake, and a second would be it makes me feel inadequate haha. I like knowing that even gorgeous people don't always have perfect skin.

I do understand the need/want to edit a bit, though. I have horribly red skin due to a skin condition and am definitely guilty of having edited that out of pictures now and then. I just like the bloggers I follow to remain looking human ;)

But all that aside, you ARE gorgeous, and I absolutely love your looks. I've been in a neutral rut lately (more like the last 1-2 years, boo) and you always make me want to use more color. Maybe I'll actually do it one of these days :D

    4. I kinda have to agree with Shanna. If I see the fake skin look, I can't help but wonder what else isn't quite accurate especially if it's a review. I wouldn't want to rush out and buy a purple eyeshadow that I thought was going to be vibrant, but get disappointed when it doesn't turn out like the blogger's photo. I understand editing unsightly zits because sometimes those are so unexpected!

I do like that you take your photos outside or in natural lighting so I believe that your colorful looks are accurate. I always love coming to your blog to see what you've done next!

    5. I see what you mean. And I agree. Sometimes when I see someones skin looking perfectly edited, I do assume that their makeup colors are also edited.

I can tell you that I won't have an easy time doing that though haha. I actually am having a hard time how to make the colors look like they do in person using photoshop! When I edited my Giants look the other day, I called my husband over and asked him if the picture looked the same as my makeup and he said, "your makeup is brighter in person" and I just can't figure out how to do it!

But I do understand and agree. And Shanna, thank you! I'm so glad you're at least considering using color! I LOVE me some color! Even if it's just on my lid and then I blend up from there with some brown!

  16. I think both look great! Your skin always looks good in your pictures, I don't think you need to focus on the editing. You are gorgeous and don't need it! and neither does Meredith! :) You two were some of the main reasons I started going bolding with my looks and I get soooo many compliments, just wish you guys lived closure so you could do my wedding makeup. I think I'll be too nervous :)

    1. Aw, thank you! Sometimes it's nice to see my skin looking completely flawless. And honestly, I posted the edited pictures on Makeupbee and Beautylish and they've gotten quite a bit of love so it does make me confused haha.

I wish I lived closer too! I'd love to do your makeup (I need practice on other people!)!! I think if you practice enough and try to get the look you'll be going for, you can definitely do it!! Or post some pictures and see what other people suggest?

    2. I personally am always scared to let someone else do my face makeup. I have a very specific routine that works very well for covering everything on my face and I'm always afraid that if someone else does it, either not everything will be covered or the makeup will look cakey and nobody likes that!!
