One day while waiting for our children to get off their buses, my neighbor and I were talking a little bit and she said she'd seen this video showing modern Geisha makeup and she loved it. Now Geisha makeup isn't something I'd ever considered doing. It scares me a little haha. But I watched the tutorial she sent me which you can watch here! I thought it was neat and just was trying to figure out a time when I could wear it without feeling completely nutso haha.
So today is that day. I was very influenced by that YouTube video but I also googled "Geisha makeup" and took bits of inspiration from pictures I saw there too. So here's my look!
It's soooo different for me!! Which is good.
I did use a foundation that it way too light for my skin (which you can really see in the last picture!) to lighten but not white out my face.
Eyes:
TFSI
NYX JEP "milk"
Inglot 403 P (yellow gold) shadow
Sugarpill's Love+ (red) shadow on eyes, cheeks, forehead, and a little in eyebrows
NYX "white" shadow
Revlon Colorstay/ Wet 'n Wild black liquid liners mixed
a set of Halloween lashes for top and some random ones for the lower lashes
Lips:
NYX "Amsterdam" soft matte lip cream
This was fun to do. I definitely like trying different things but my problem is wearing them out. Who wants to do makeup and then just wash it off?? That's no fun.
I hope you like this (especially you, Carrie!). Haha I feel like a crazy person with the bottom lashes since they're not actually near my natural lashes so it feels VERY strange! I hope you all enjoy your Sunday!!!
So in my thinking about what to do for Halloween, I finally decided to do a Drag Queen look. I just think drag makeup is so much fun with all of the glitter and bright colors and just how dramatic it is. I've only tried to cover my eyebrows one other time and it didn't work out that well because the glue stick I had was junk. So I made sure to get some Elmer's glue this time! So here's my final look!
My daughter took this picture. I don't have a costume haha so this is what I'm wearing.
I had sooo much fun doing this! For real, this was the most fun I've ever had doing makeup. I know you can't really see the sparkles (any advice on how to get glitter to show up on camera???) but I swear they're there. I used Petrilude's video (the glue stick method) to help me cover my brows. It worked pretty well. You could still kinda see where my brows were, even after foundation, concealer, and powder, but with the eyeshadow on it really doesn't matter. Oh, just f.y.i, shadow doesn't like to apply as nicely on glue as it does on skin.
Then to draw on my new brows I used the brown ELF studio cream liner ($3 at Target) and it worked PERFECTLY! I was worried about them not looking right but I think they look great!
What I used:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
88 palette (dark turquoise blue)
NYX "Black" eyeshadow
Inglot shadows 371 M (bright blue), 352 M (skintone color)
NYX JEP "Milk" right under new brow and all over lid
NYX silver liner
NYX ultra pearl manias "Lime" and "Yellow"
Jesse's Girl sparkly white/gold pigment
Bed Head White Eyeshadow under brow
Bobbi Brown "Black Ink" gel liner
MAC "Blacktrack" fluidline
Kat Von D lashes from the Tattoo Chronicles Palette
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black
Face:
ELF blush/bronzer duo
NYX "Taupe" blush to contour
A random no name pink blush I have
Inglot 351 M to highlight under eyes
Same Jesse's Girl pigment to highlight cheeks and add sparkle
Lips:
A brown eyeliner
MAC "Pink Friday" lipstick
MAC "Right Image" cremesheen glass
And then I teased my hair like crazy, which is not my thing at all haha.
This was so much fun to do! For real, if you ever have a chance to rock some drag makeup, do it! Ashii had suggested that I do a drag look like forever ago and I've wanted to I just didn't have anywhere to wear it haha. So trick-or-treating here I come! I hope you guys all have fun and stay safe!!! Take pictures and show me what you're being!!!
I know there has to be people like me out there who like the whole going all out for Halloween idea, you just don't happen to be going to any parties so you have a hard time justifying buying a costume. So that's where it can be tricky to figure out what to do because you want to do something that still looks good whether you have a real costume or not. So I came up with this SUPER easy idea that really only has one main product that makes the whole look.
What you need: a golden toned pigment. Yup. That's pretty much it. I used a Jesse's Girl (I know they're sold at Walgreens, I'm not sure if they're in the other drugstores or not) glittery pigment that, when you look at the product in the container looks more white than gold, but when you swatch it, you definitely see the gold.
I used a primer on my lid first (as always) and then I mixed a bit of the pigment with some water and made an almost paste-like consistency (just slightly more watery). I applied that all over my lid up to the crease and in the inner corner of my eye and the outer third of my bottom lid. This technique, where you wet a pigment, is called foiling. I've only tried it a few times before. It makes the pigment more metallic looking and makes them more intense.
From the foiled part, I blended a bit of the dry pigment up to a matte highlight color (for Halloween, I'd probably do this a shimmery color though). I added a light, basic winged liner. And then I went bananas adding that same pigment to my cheekbones. Like bananas (which you cannot see well in the pictures but I swear I look like a metallic sparkly fairy or something haha). To make that more metallic, I did one spray of my MAC Fix + spray on the back of my hand and stippled my Sonia Kashuk stippling brush in it, then I stippled over top of the pigment I had added to my cheekbones. While that was still damp, I added more pigment on top of it so it was ridiculously sparkly and golden.
For my lips, I applied Revlon's "Nude Attitude" matte lipstick and took the same pigment and patted it on top of the lipstick.
And then for hair, I'd probably do loose waves with a gold headband or something (I literally had to run to get my daughter off the bus after I did this, so I didn't make this as well done as I should have) and DEFINITELY gold jewelry (which I don't own, I wear white gold or silver). And if I personally were going to wear this look on Halloween, I'd just rock jeans (or a white skirt or dress) and a plain white t-shirt because I think you'd get the idea of what I was going for without my actually having a costume. Of course, it would be better if you had a costume, but if you don't this can still work.
And once I finished doing this, I got to go to my daughter's bus stop (which is at someone's house) looking like a golden glittery crazy person haha. I wondered if I should have told them why I was wearing that makeup but I just left it alone haha, we'll just let them think I'm insane haha. I know you can't tell from the pictures but I swear, it's SOOO sparkly!
I hope this helps someone out there whether you're wearing a real costume or not! A few minor details would really make this look, I just wasn't prepared to do this haha, it just came to me. I hope you all are having a great week! Let me know what you're going to be for Halloween, I always like hearing what people are being!
Let's be honest, unless someone is really into makeup or special effects, or really artsy stuff, for Halloween most women will be a "sexy" something or other. And to quote Mean Girls, "Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it." Haha I love that movie.
So I decided to do a look that you could wear with any outfit if you're going for the sexy look. It has a very cat-eye quality to it. For the actual day of Halloween, I would just add some false lashes and maybe a rhinestone on the inner corner. So here's what I did. Haha I had to tone it down a little and not go completely crazy because I knew I had to go to Target after this.
I edit my pictures in Picnik and at the moment, they have an edit where you can make yourself have Vampire eyes, so I did that. I think it looks cool
Also, if you have a look that's something that's supposed to be "bad" like a witch, a pirate, a vampire, something along those lines, I'd add red lips and not go as heavy on the cheek makeup.
For this look I used : Inglot AMC 61,
which is a blackened blue with navy blue sparkles (not a favorite of mine at all) but I wanted to use this color since I never do. It basically just looks black but if you blend it out enough, you can see the blue. I also used a dark tan color from my 88 palette, and my highlight is Inglot 395 P. The liner is Bobbi Brown "Black Ink" gel liner. And if I had lash glue I definitely would have added false lashes because I think, especially for Halloween, this look needs them.
To make the shape, the first thing I did was take a smudge brush and drag the dark blue from the corner of my eye to make the wing at the angle I wanted it and then I filled my lid with the color. I blended it up from there making sure not the lose the wing shape I'd made. Then I made the inner corner of my eye come to a point with my liner to make the shape a little more dramatic.
I saw the latest challenge on Makeup Geek is to do a look using black and orange, it said to be inspired by a picture (?) so I googled "orange and black pictures" and I saw this
And I thought it was super cool and I could definitely do a look inspired by this.
So I got started and I started playing with my liner on the outer corner of my eyes and I stepped back, took a look, and felt like this looked like a "Fallen Angel" type look so I went with that and tried to make it a little darker and more evil looking, hence the crazy contouring on my cheeks haha. So here is the look I came up with!
Sorry about the insane amount of pictures, it was raining outside so I didn't have good lighting so I tried to take some pictures outside, which wasn't working out super well so I took some more in my bathroom. However, bathroom pictures aren't as nice as outside pictures so I was getting a little frustrated because I wanted it to look good but my lighting wasn't working with me haha. Oh well. I really tried on this look and I hope you guys like it!
The colors I used were NYX shadow in "black," Inglot shadows 366 M (a matte reddish orange), 407 P (a beautiful golden orange), 393 P (as a highlight), 2 oranges from my 88 palette. The liner is a mix of NYX studio liquid liner "extreme black" and Revlon Colorstay black liquid liner. I used Inglot 366 and NYX "Black" shadows to do my cheeks as well.
