A Lime Green and Bright Blue look

I don't know what it is about lime green and bright blue together but I just love them.  Makeup Geek's weekly challenge this week is to do a spring inspired look so this is the look I did for that.  They made a new rule when you enter pictures that the pictures can't be edited, which I think is good because I really think it makes it a more fair challenge (these pictures are slightly edited though, I just enhanced the contrast and edited my skin just a little in all but the first one which came out like that on my camera).

Here's a bonus picture of me and my handsome Sullivan!
Isn't he so handsome? Haha can you see the makeup on the back of my hand?  Whoops!

I really liked this look!  It was fun and colorful, especially with the pink lips!

So I got through my second round of chemo.  I found out that blurry vision is a very uncommon side effect of the nausea medicine, it happens in less than 1% of people so they're going to switch my medicine to a different, longer lasting medicine.  My nurse said worst case scenario is that my vision is blurry for longer but hopefully it won't be at all.  I haven't had much of an appetite, on my chemo weeks I primarily eat saltine crackers and randomly some bread.  Luckily I have a week on and then a week off so I can eat on my non chemo weeks.

Also, if you are ever diagnosed with a disease I highly recommend that you DO NOT google the survival rate.  I did and it bummed me out.  I realize that the average age of someone diagnosed with colon cancer is 72 so I really think that's why the survival rate is so low (it's based on a 5 year survival rate).  I watched the movie 50/50 and he had searched his survival rate and so I thought I would too haha.  Mine is not nearly that high.  It just makes me realize that I really need to be, and will be, part of the small percentage who makes it.

I meet with my surgeon tomorrow just for another checkup.  I have all these questions about the surgery I'll need on my liver, which I'm super scared of.  They said it's a more intensive surgery than the one I already went through, which I thought was pretty tough (though not as painful as ACL surgery, I never woke up crying from pain after my "left hemicolectomy" like I did with my ACL/meniscus surgery).  I guess it's a tough surgery because of all of the blood vessels and everything in the liver.  I just hope I'm not in the hospital quite  as long after that as I was with the last one, I was really missing my daughter after the 3rd day even though she did come to visit me.

Sorry to keep talking, I've just been thinking all of these things and it's kind of nice to get the thoughts out.  So thanks for listening to me ramble haha!  And thanks so much for hanging in there with me!  Your support means so much to me!  Thanks so much guys!!

A look with glitter using mainly Glamour Doll Eyes!

This is going to be a really short post haha.  I was feeling pretty good the other day and decided to do something a little more fun with my makeup than I've been doing (I've been sooo boring!!)! I've had this silver disco-y glitter from Glamour Doll Eyes called Hollywood for a while but haven't used it and I really wanted to give it a try.  Here's what I did with it!

What I used:
Milani Liquid-Like metallic eyeliner "Silver" as a base for the glitter
GDE "Hollywood" glitter
GDE "Mingles" (blue)
GDE "Radioactive" (dark green)
Artistry eyeshadow "Eden" (light yellow green)
Inglot 351 M as highlight color

I was glad to finally do something a little more like myself.  I really liked these colors together, I wish they showed up better in the pictures.  I don't know what my issue is but things aren't photographing very nicely for me lately.  Oh well, I'll get it figured out!!

This is so short but that's all I have for today!  I have chemo again tomorrow so I'm not sure when to expect that I'll have another post up.  But thank you all again for all of your sweet comments.  I read every single one and they so much to me!  Thank you all!

A Razzleberry look!

Hey guys!  I know it's been a while since I last posted and I'm really sorry!  It's been a little crazy here.

I had my first round of chemo last Monday, which while it wasn't as bad as I thought it may be, it wasn't fun.  I was ok on Monday and Tuesday (a little nauseous but whatev), but on Wednesday the medicine kicked in and I wasn't feeling well at all.  And a terrible side effect of the anti nausea medicine that I didn't know about is that it can make your vision fuzzy!  I woke up on Thursday morning and couldn't see things that I normally could!  I swear I had the worst makeup application that day, I couldn't see what I was doing!  But I made it through and have another round this upcoming Monday but at least now I at least kind of know what to expect, I'm not sure if the side effects will change with time or get worse or better but I guess we'll see.

Anyways, I have a look for you today.  I've been getting more and more Makeup Geek eyeshadows and when I was picking out the ones I wanted I knew I wanted one called "Razzleberry" just because it looks fun. Well I got it and it's just been sitting there.  So I finally used it.  When you use this color, you will COMPLETELY understand why it's called Razzleberry haha.  So here's the look I did (sorry I don't have better pictures, I've not been very photogenic lately...).

What I used:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
NYX JEP "Milk"
Makeup Geek shadow "Duchess" (purple) on lid and up above crease and under eye
Makeup Geek shadow "Razzleberry" (pink) blended into Duchess and up from there
Makeup Geek "Vanilla Bean" as highlight
MAC Blacktrack fluidline
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara

I was too lazy to put anything on my lips so that's just my lip color

Razzleberry is definitely a fun color.  There's a bit of glitter in it but that brushed off when I blended it.  It's definitely one of the more pigmented colors I've gotten from MUG (don't get Fuji, it's a letdown).

So I'm sorry I don't have more looks or better, more interesting looks for you right now.  I've definitely been trying to get better, I just haven't had as much patience as I usually do when I do my makeup.

Also, I don't know if you noticed the link for Relay for Life in the top left hand corner of my blog but I have a friend who will be walking in an event to support the American Cancer Society and she's walking in honor of me and also her uncle.  If you click on the link you can see what the money goes to, it's really a great program.  My Cancer Center offers so many excellent programs and classes for cancer patients and their family members and I know that the Relay for Life helps support those programs.  If you feel it in your heart to donate to that, we'd all be so grateful.  If not, I totally understand.

I hope you guys are having a great week!  I'll definitely be posting another look before Monday!  Thank you always for your thoughts and prayers.  They mean so much to me!  Even if I don't personally respond (I've barely gotten on the computer this past week and a half), just know that I've seen what you've said and I appreciate it so much!  Thank you guys for hanging in there with me!

Feeling a bit more like myself with a smokey eye!

Finally!  I have a new post!  I'm sorry it's been so long, I wasn't expecting to not feel like sitting at the computer after surgery so that's kinda thrown me off a bit.  So first thing first.  I cut my hair.  It's not as short as I was intending on going because when I went to the salon to cut it, the owner came over to me and told me that he's a client for years and years who also has colon cancer and the drugs haven't made her lose her hair at all.  So he suggested that I just trim it.  I decided that I still wanted to donate what I could because I didn't want to be kicking myself in the butt if I didn't do it and then my hair started falling out.

So here is a picture of my sister and I (taken on her phone) the day before I got my hair cut.

And here's a picture from right after I got home from the salon (taken on my phone).

Goodbye long hair!  I donated 10 inches.  Which is a lot.  I like my new hair (not saying I don't miss the long hair).  I mean, I've had it this length before so it wasn't as crazy of a shock as if I had done the pixie cut.  I still plan to buzz my hair if it does start to fall out.

Now onto the makeup look!

This is yet another look I did with Makeup Geek eyeshadows.  I really think they've been great so far.  You definitely need a Z palette or something to put them in.  You may think it won't be so bad opening up those little packages every time you want to use one but that gets old very quickly haha.  So here's my look!

And a quick cute one of my daughter and me (taken on her DS).

Color placement:

1- Corrupt
2- Cocoa Bear
3- Chickadee
4- Vanilla Bean
5- Shimma Shimma (I also used this for a cheek highlight)

I'm so sorry that I've not been posting a lot and even more so that I haven't responded to comments.  I do read them all I just don't know how to log on through my phone and I have basically not been on the computer hardly at all.  Hence the lack of posts.  So thank you all so much for your sweet comments, I really do appreciate them all so much!

I start chemo tomorrow morning at 8:30.  I'm quite nervous because I just don't really know what to expect.  I know one of the medications they're putting me on will make me highly sensitive to cold.  I won't be able to eat, drink, touch, or be in the cold at all.  They said I'll need to keep a pair of gloves next to the fridge because if I touch something cold, it will feel like I've gotten an electric shock.  And if I eat or drink something cold they said it will feel like I'm swallowing shards of glass, which doesn't sound like that much fun.  I'm nervous about being nauseous and possibly getting sick to my stomach.  I HATE getting sick to my stomach.  So I've already got my anti-nausea medicine, some ginger to make ginger tea, and some ginger hard candies to suck on (apparently I've heard ginger is good for nausea haha).

If anybody ever has a question regarding the cancer itself or chemo or anything please don't hesitate to ask or if you are going through something, please feel free to contact me (you can e-mail me at starryskies214@yahoo.com).  I don't want to overload you guys with stuff you don't care about so I'll try to keep my chemo stuff to a minimum, I'm not saying I won't mention it at all because it will be part of my life for the next few months.

So that's all for today!  Thank you all for hanging on!  I really will try to be better about posting now that I'm not quite as sore.  Thank you all so so so much!!  I hope you have an incredible week!!

Blue and brown look using MUG shadows and a quick update!

I received some Makeup Geek eyeshadows recently and I was so excited to try them.  Unfortunately, I got them the day before my surgery so I had to wait forever to try them!  I've done a few looks with them but our weather hasn't been very good so I've only photographed one of the looks I've done.  I have to say that so far they're pretty good (I'll do swatches and a review later on).  So here's the look I did!

MUG shadows I used:
1- Mermaid
2- Burlesque
3-Cocoa Bear
4- Vanilla Bean
5- Shimma Shimma

I know I do this type of look a lot, with a blue color on my lid and brown above the crease but I think it's very wearable that way and I just really like it haha.

And just a quick update on what's going on with me, I'm healing well from my surgery, I'm still sore but I'm pretty sure that's normal.  I'm gonna have one heck of a scar up the middle of my tummy (it's about 8 inches long haha) but scars don't really bother me, I say it's my street cred haha.

I met with the oncologist the other day and the plan is for me to start chemo on the 12th, which was sooner than I thought it was going to be, but it is what it is.  So sometime before then I plan on cutting my hair.  Maybe something like this:
 but I'm open to suggestions!!

Thank you all so so so much for all of your kind words and thoughts on my last post.  I read a lot of them while I was in the hospital and they really made me feel better.  I'm so lucky to have such a great group of followers!  Thank you guys so much!!

Blue looks for Colon Cancer awareness (please read!!)!

This is a post I didn't think I'd ever be writing.  I did a couple of looks this past week for Colon Cancer awareness.  I knew the color for Breast Cancer awareness was pink but I hadn't been sure about the color for Colon Cancer and was happy to find out it was blue and not the brown that my goofy husband said haha.  So here are the looks I did!

What I used:
TFSI
NYX JEP "Milk"
MAC Mineralized shadow "Sea & Sky" (Sky on lid)
88 palette for black and navy blue
theBalm "Promiscuous Pearl" shadow as highlight
L'oreal Lineur Intense Carbon Black Liquid Liner
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara

What I used:
Lime Crime Eyeshadow Helper
Glamour Doll Eye's "Mingles" shadow applied wet on lid and then blended up dry
MAC "Blanc Type" shadow
Glamour Doll Eye's "Ancestry" as highlight
MAC Blacktrack fluidline
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara (sorry about the clumpy lashes!!)

So why choose to do a look for colon cancer?  Well this answer is very personal but I want you guys to know what's going on.  Wednesday I went to the doctor because I'd been having stomach issues.  I thought it was something not super serious, maybe Crohn's disease or Ulcerative Colitis.  I was so nervous to go but when I woke up from my colonoscopy (which I had been dreading and never EVER intended to tell anyone about) my doctor came in with my husband and said, "I don't have good news for you.  It looks like cancer."

Um... what???  I'm 26 years old, I'm healthy, strong, I have no family history of cancer, I don't even like red meat.  I have zero factors that they say might put you at a higher risk for colon cancer.  So on Friday I met with a surgeon who told me the biopsy came back and that I do have stage 4 colon cancer, which has spread to my liver.  The plan is for me to go into surgery tomorrow to remove the mass from my colon and implant a port so I can start chemotherapy.

So in a week my life has flipped a little bit.  I'm definitely staying positive and, though I know it's so unusual for someone who's so young to get colon cancer, I also know that my age is going to help me get through this easier.  And I have the best, most amazing support system.  My husband is incredible and my parents have come down from New York to stay with me for a little bit, with other family and friends wanting to come see me and help me out, but not wanting to overwhelm me.  I have amazing people in my life who have been calling me and texting me and emailing me to see what's going on and telling me that they're praying for me and thinking of me.

I don't want people feeling bad for me.  This sucks and there's no getting around that.  But I'm glad that it's happening to me and not to someone else, I know I'm strong enough to make it through everything.

I learned an important lesson through what's happened so far.  I knew something was wrong in my body (granted, I didn't think it was this) but I didn't listen.  I let this go for about a year before I was brave enough to tell someone that something was wrong.  I was too embarrassed to tell people.  So please please please, if you know that something isn't right, go to the doctor.  Even if you have none of the factors for having a serious illness, that doesn't mean you don't have it.  I learned that the hard way.

Tomorrow is my surgery (which I'm am not allowed to wear makeup for!!) so I'm going to be MIA for a little bit but I'll be back!  And I have every intention on continuing my blogging, even through chemo.  I have decided that one I talk with the oncologist, that if there's a good chance I'll lose my hair, that I'm going to cut it off and donate what I can.  I can't see the sense in letting perfectly good hair wash down the drain, especially when someone else could use it.  So any ideas for short pixie haircuts are more then welcomed!!

Just if you all could keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers, I know more prayers can only help! Thank you all for your support, it means so so so much to me!!

Review of Pink Blossom Cosmetic's Valentine's Day Collection

Recently I received a collection of four mineral shadows from Pink Blossom Cosmetics.  This collection was made for Valentine's Day, but obviously that's because of the color combination and it's nothing you couldn't use any other day of the year.  So first let me tell you how adorably this came packaged.  It was so cute!  Here's what it looked like when I got it:
How cute is this box??  Right now it's housing a good majority of my loose shadows.

It came with a little sample of a matte black
And here are the colors (some of the names smudged because I used them before I took pictures of the bottoms and I got some wet by accident so if you ever order these, don't get the wording wet!):

White Chocolate:
"White satin shimmer"

Soulmate:
"Lavender shimmer with blue sparkles"

Sweetheart:
"Pink satin shimmer"

Red Wine:
"Deep red, almost burgundy, with red sparkles"

Dry Swatches over no base

I think the colors are very nice.  White Chocolate is the most pigmented, followed by Red Wine and Sweetheart. Soulmate is a VERY light color, which is barely visible when applied, which I think would have a tendency to look very ashy on darker skin.  I did a few looks using exclusively these colors.  I also used the matte black sample, which is quite nice.

I wasn't able to come up with tons of different types of looks using just these colors but I know I could add colors already in my collection and use them every day.  Red Wine was the main color I kept trying find different ways to use.  I did apply it wet on my lid one day (which I have no pictures of) and I wouldn't say it's a deep color.  I'd say it's a medium color, it's not too dark, not super light.

For this look, I used Red Wine over a black base:

I actually applied just a hint of Sweetheart in the middle of my lid over Red Wine just to give it some more dimension

This look I already showed you, but I'll let you know my placement:
Sweetheart applied wet all over lid and under the eye
Red Wine in crease
Soulmate blended above crease (see the light tint of purple?)
White Chocolate as a highlight

This set is being sold for $20.  Is this a set I would buy for myself?  No.  The colors just aren't as bright as I like my colors to be.  Would I buy this set for someone who's more into toned down, neutral looks?  Absolutely.  I think Red Wine is a great, versatile color as you can make it look more brown or  more purple depending on what you're using it for.  I think that White Chocolate is a great universal highlight color but you could definitely use it on the lid too.  Soulmate is a bit of a miss for me as it's really really light, but seeing the color in the jar, I would expect it to be so I really wasn't surprised.  And I haven't received any makeup packaged like this so I think this would be a great gift for someone.

So I definitely think this would be a great set for someone who prefers more natural looks as the colors aren't overly pigmented or bright.  But they did apply really smoothly, I didn't have any spottiness to how they applied, which is awesome.  They blended out without any issues and I think they're really nice, just more for someone who isn't a color freak like me haha.

Pink Blossom Cosmetics also has a facebook page and I believe she's trying to come up with more matte colors, which you all know I'm a sucker for.  The sample sizes are $1 for the little container like the matte black came in.  The full sized jars are $5 for a 5 gram jar with 1-3 grams of product.  I don't make makeup so I don't really understand why there isn't a more consistent amount of product per jar.  *Edit: I sent a link of this to the owner and she said, "As for the weight in products the reason why I stated 1-3 grams per jar because Iron Oxides and Ultramarines are heavier than Mica's. So if a particular color contains iron oxides and/or ultramarines it will be heavier but I make sure every jar is packed full to the brim." * Lilly, the owner, was great to work with.  I'd definitely at lease check this company out and see what you think.

*I was sent this for free but I would never lie to you.  It wouldn't do me any good to lie to you.  These are my complete honest opinions.
