Do NOT order from Calypso Minerals!

I wasn't going to post this today but from all of the responses I've received regarding this company in the past day I really think it shouldn't wait for me to post this.

I am so disappointed in this company.  I did not realize how many people were taken advantage of, I didn't know that anyone was taken advantage of.  I contacted the owner of Calypso Minerals, Jennifer, with this:

"Hey Jennifer, I just wanted to touch base with you on something. I've gotten a few comments about not being able to trust Calypso Minerals as people order products and never receive them and when they try to contact you about it, you don't respond. And that really bums me out. I think your products are amazing and I really do love them but I just can't bring myself to recommend your products to people if they aren't receiving what they're paying for.

I really don't want to recommend that people avoid buying from you because I LOVE the products you have but after receiving some e-mails concerning this issue, I feel like I may have to.

I just wanted you to be aware about what my followers are saying to me.

Sonja"

To which I got the response:,

"This really bums me out too. I had 2 people that I shipped products to that I had received their products back but reshipped and will also send refunds, I am in the middle of divorce and a move and nasty custody issues and closed my shop so that I could catch up."

Which is all well and good but I've gotten WAY more responses than two.  I thought maybe if I addressed the issue with her she would maybe offer a solution, instead she offered an excuse.  I'm really sorry that she's having personal issues as I'm sure that's got to be really difficult.  However, if you can accept orders from people, you'd better be willing to fill them.

I am so so sorry if you have had any issues with this company.  As I've said, I did place an order with her, I was not sent my stuff for free, and I had no issues, though she did know that I have a blog so maybe that's why I received my stuff from her.

But I have gone back through my old posts where I've products from her and added an edit in so I'm doing what I can to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else because of something positive I have had to say about these products.  And from what I'm understanding this is not the first time this has happened with this company.  She has closed her Etsy shop but I have seen that she is still advertising through her facebook page.

So please do NOT place any orders with Calypso Minerals as it seems you will just be throwing your money away!

Again, I am so so sorry for anyone who has had issues with this company.  If something like this has happened to you, you should report it to the Better Business Bureau, as it is a crime.

Reptile Series: Green Tree Monitor

I've been totally lame and slacking in my reptile series lately but I finally have another look to add to it!  This look is inspired by the Green Tree Monitor.  They're beautifully colored and range from a blue green to lime green in color and they're just so vibrant that I knew they'd be perfect to pick for this series.

So here's what a Green Tree Monitor looks like:
Thank you Justin (aka Krusty) for letting me use this picture!

If you look closely at him starting at his nose, he fades from a pale yellow green into a blue green into a lime green into the blue green again then he fades into blue and then back to the blue green.  I just think he's gorgeous.  So here's the look I came up with inspired by this lizard.  It didn't come out as well as I was hoping it would but I figured I'd post it anyways!

This is a picture I took of a Green Tree Monitor at Alligator Adventures in Myrtle Beach, SC.

I really tried to get all of the different tones into my look.  It's not as easy as it may seem haha.  I used so many different greens I couldn't even tell you all of them.

But mainly I used my 88 palette, and also Ben Nye "Jade" pigment, Calypso Minerals "Drama" matte blue pigment, and BFTE "Cheap Thrills" (one of the sample sizes I got), which is the second color in from the corner of my eye and is also my highlight color.

I know I could have done this better but I think it's neat and you can definitely see where my inspiration came from!  I hope you guys like this!  I have a few other reptiles left for my series and maybe I won't get any new makeup that I'll have to try out as soon as I get it (impatient much???) so I can keep on track with this series and get it done haha.

As always, thank you so much for taking time to check this out!  You guys are the best!!!

A belated Merry Christmas and two looks!

I didn't post right before Christmas like I had planned so I never wished you guys a Merry Christmas (for any who celebrate)!  I hope you all had a great day!  This was by far the best Christmas with my daughter.  She's 6 now and was SOOO excited for Santa to come.  My husband and I went to bed around 1:30 in the morning and we could hear her up in her room running around in circles.  She's insane haha.

And even though this is late, I'm still going to add a few clips from some of my favorite Christmas movies.

It doesn't get better than Home Alone 2

I like watching "The Polar Express" with my daughter

And of course, Elf

Enough of that haha, onto the looks!

This look I did the other day and while I thought it was pretty, it wasn't a favorite.  But then when it was almost bedtime, my husband goes, "I really liked your makeup today."  Which is not really something he ever says to me.  If I ask him how he likes my makeup, 98% of the time he'll say, "it's cool."  So that really surprised me.

I have silver glitter on my lid but guess what?  You can't see it in my pictures!

What I used:
TFSI
NYX "milk" JEP
Kat Von D "Razor Grey" from the Metal Orchestra palette
Calypso Minerals silver glitter (applied with hairspray!)
Calypso Minerals "Grape Pop" matte pigment
Calypso Minerals "Matte Violet" pigment

*Edit* I know their colors are beautiful but I just found out that Calypso Minerals has been taking people's money and not sending them the products they've ordered.  So please don't order from them!  I don't know about dupes for all of the colors but Glamour Doll Eyes has a color called "Mingles" which is a good dupe for "True Blue".  I'm so sorry!*

and I can't remember what I used for my highlight... whoops!
L'oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense
Maybelline The falsies Volum' Express Mascara

And the look I have on today:

I did this look so fast!  I had to take my puppy (I don't think I told you guys I got a puppy, I'll post some pictures at the bottom) to the vet this morning so I wanted to get ready fast.  I grabbed my Naked palette and did this look.  I have to say that I really love being able to do a complete look using just one palette.  There's enough of a range in color shades in there to be able to do a whole look, which I'm a HUGE fan of.  It makes life so much easier if you can just grab one palette and do a look rather than having to grab a bunch.

I used NYX "Black Bean" JEP as a base
Naked's "Hustle" on lid
"Toasted" above crease and under eye
"Sin" above that
"Virgin" right under brow as a highlight color
I lined my eyes with MAC blacktrack fluidline and then placed some "Creep" over that to soften it
L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara

And while I'm not a huge fan of neutral looks on myself, I really like this one.  The black bean didn't make "hustle" too dark, it just gave it a bit of depth that I'm really diggin.

So yeah, I got a puppy.  She was a Christmas present kinda for me and kinda for my other puppy (no worries though, he's fixed so there shall be no baby Sullivan's running around).  Her name is Delilah but I have nicknamed her Meatball because she is a little meatball haha.  She's an American Bully (which basically a selectively bred Pit Bull to be shorter, stockier, and calmer), she' about 22 weeks old, and she's WAY more calm than my Sullivan.
see that North Carolina red dirt on her paw?
I love this picture of the three of them!
However, Sullivan and Delilah are quite the little duo.  They made a HUGE mess one day when they decided to play in the mud together.
he doesn't think he was naughty haha

but she sure does!
They were the biggest mess EVER!  They had mud all over the side of my house.  My husband had to carry them inside so we could bathe them.  My bathtub looked like a murder scene from a movie.  It was stinkin hilarious though.

But that's about it for today!  Again, I hope you all had a great Christmas!  Are you planning anything for New Year's??  Going to any parties?  Let me know your plans, I'd love to hear them!  Thanks so much for checking this out guys!!  You're the best!!!

Very quick post with my Candy Cane cut crease look!

I did this insane makeup today haha.  I completely feel like an elf or a Christmas stocking or something.  But at the same point in time, there's something I really like about it!  So here is the look I did!

Isn't it crazy haha?

What I used:
TFSI
NYX JEP "milk"
NYX "Black" shadow
NYX "white" shadow
Sugarpill's Love+ Shadow
Calypso Mineral's "Envy" matte pigment
Calypso Minerals "Sublime" matte pigment
L'oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense
Maybelline the falsies Volum' Express
Kat Von D false lashes

Lips:
Revlon Colorstay "Red" lipliner
NYX "Amersterdam" soft matte lip cream

It took me a while to do and when I open my eyes, the stripes like to blend together a little bit.  Oh well.  So now I'm going to walk around like this today haha.  This should be interesting.  I really don't like it when people look at me, it makes me very uncomfortable.  I definitely think this is a fun look, and after a few days of wearing just neutral colors, this is quite a welcomed change.

I hope you guys like this look!  I entered this one in the makeupbee contest as well, the link is RIGHT HERE, if you'd be willing to vote for me!

And my Calypso Minerals giveaway is ending on Monday night so make sure you ENTER HERE!!  Thank you all so much for your support!!!

A purple look with some glitter! (*Glitter pictures added)

For being a Queen Makeupbee, Tiomi sent me some Sprinkles Eye and Body Glitter from Eye Kandy Cosmetics to review.  The color I got is called "Berry Blast" and it's a gorgeous blueberry type color.  But with it being loose glitter, I looked around a few places looking for glitter glue so I could use it.  I went to Sally's because a friend of mine (LisaMarie from Makeup & Beauty Talk with LisaMarie) said that their glitter glue is decent.  Well they didn't have any but the girl there said I could just use hairspray.  Which Meredith Jessica Pigments and Palettes also said she uses to get her loose glitter to stick.  So I gave that a go today.

Here is the look I came up with today!

I wanted this to look purple so I did a more pinky colored purple underneath the blue glitter.
What I used:
TFSI
NYX JEP "Milk"
Calypso Minerals "Matte Violet" pigment
Calypso Minerals "Black" matte pigment

*Edit* I know their colors are beautiful but I just found out that Calypso Minerals has been taking people's money and not sending them the products they've ordered.  So please don't order from them!  I don't know about dupes for all of the colors but Glamour Doll Eyes has a color called "Mingles" which is a good dupe for "True Blue".  I'm so sorry!*

NYX Ultra pearl mania "Silver"
Balmbini Volume 2 "Promiscuous Pearl" (highlight)
L'oreal Lineur Intense Carbon Black
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara
And some hairspray and the "Berry Blast" glitter on lid

On my lips (which looked much brighter in person):
MAC "Pink Friday" lipstick
MAC "Right Image" Cremesheen Glass

I think the glitter is really gorgeous.  I wish it stayed as sparkley after I patted it over the hairspray as it is in the container.  I am not good at getting decent pictures of glitter.  I don't know what it is but it just doesn't ever look sparkly for me.  But here's the glitter:

And yesterday I redid an olive smokey I eye I had done a while ago because I had so many people asking me to do a tutorial for it.  So I did!  I tried to change the angles with everything so you'll have to let me know if you think it's better!

I've felt like such a lame-o lately.  I haven't been very inspired.  And I've had a hard time getting good pictures of my work.  I don't know... hopefully that gets better soon!

Thank you all soo much for reading this!  And I just checked and I'm up to 400 followers now!!  Thank you guys so much!  And if you haven't yet, be sure to go enter my Calypso Minerals Giveaway!  I want to show you guys how much I appreciate more.  I wish I could give it to every single one of you (like for real!)!

Calypso Minerals Giveaway!!!

*Edit* I know these colors are beautiful but I just found out that Calypso Minerals has been taking people's money and not sending them the products they've ordered.  So please don't order from them!  I don't know about dupes for all of the colors but Glamour Doll Eyes has a color called "Mingles" which is a good dupe for "True Blue".  I'm so sorry!*

I just posted a review on these Calypso Minerals products that I bought recently.  And I figured I'd stop teasing you guys and just tell you that I'm going to be giving some away!!!  I mean, I was excited when I reached 300 followers and like two weeks later now I have 356!  I can't even believe it!  I just want to thank you all so much for reading my blog!

There are going to be two winners.  The first prize is a 10 color matte stacker:
Which is the same stacker that I have, I just added a matte black to the bottom because everyone needs a good matte black.

The second prize:
These colors are shimmery and one is obviously a loose glitter.
The colors are Drama Sparkle, Lime Lite, Aquadelic, and Green Glitter.

So the giveaway starts as soon as I post this and will be ending on December 19th, 2011 at 10:00 pm (EST). You must be a follower of my blog to enter.

How to enter:
1. Leave me one comment below telling me who your celebrity makeup crush is and also your GFC name (so I know you're following me) and your e-mail address.  That will give you one entry.

2. Post a link to this giveaway on your blog (which you will have to post a link to in your comment, if you don't, I won't realize that you did it a it won't be counted).  This will give you two additional entries.

3.If someone enters and names you as a referral, you will receive another entry (for each referral).  So be sure to tell them to mention your GFC name if they come here because of you!!!

I am going to have this open internationally.  I have never shipped overseas but I'm willing to try it!

I will be using random.org to choose a winner.  I will enter your name as many times as entries you have (does that make sense???) in the order in which they are received.  If the same name comes up for both prizes, I will  go to the next name for the second prize.  Both prizes cannot go to the same person.  I'm hoping to announce the winners on December 20th.  I will then contact the winners and they'll have to reply to me within 48 hours or I will move on to the next name.

I hope that all makes sense!  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!!!

Calypso Minerals review!

Just so ya know, this is going to be a LONG post!!

If you've been following me for a little bit, you've seen me use Calypso Minerals matte loose pigments.  I stumbled across these by accident.  I was looking around on etsy, which I think is a cool site because it gives people a chance to sell their homemade products (anything from makeup to soap to jewelry to paintings to hats, scarves, and all sorts of stuff) on that site.  I'd been browsing around for a while and almost all of the loose pigments (I call them pigments, I'm not sure if they're actually considered that but they are mineral makeup) that I came across are shimmery.  I like some shimmer but not a ton of shimmer.  So I searched for matte pigments and Calypso Minerals' store popped up.

I was very intrigued by the swatches I saw.  So I contacted Jennifer, the owner, and asked if they do custom stackers because, while I liked most of the colors in both of the premade stackers I saw, I wanted some different colors.  She said they did and so I told her what colors I wanted and she put those colors in a stacker for me, as well as ordering a few extra pigments.  I also asked for 2 of her "Lipthix" which are supposedlly similar to OCC liptars (which I have never tried) and I told her what lip colors I like wearing.

So I placed my order, and like an hour later I got a notice saying that my order had shipped along with a tracking number.  I checked the tracking number a few times over the next couple days and all it ever said was that the electronic shipping information was received.  It never said it shipped.  It never said where it was.  But I placed my order at like 11:00 at night on November 11 and my order came on the 17th.  There was also a holiday and a Sunday in between those dates when the mail doesn't come so I thought that was pretty good.

So I got my makeup and swatched it right away, which I've shown you before but I'll show you again (swatched over NYX JEP "milk").

Here's what I got

Now I really wanted to test these out before I attempted a review.  So I did.
Each of these (except the loose glitter) comes with a sifter and a piece of sticky plastic over the sifter so you don't lose any product during shipping.
They're each 5 grams of product and individually cost around $7.  A stacker generally has 11 or 13 colors and costs $75 in her Etsy store.  However, since following Calypso Minerals' Facebook page, I have seen her offer many deals such as buy one get one free.  And I have to say, I did get confused because I couldn't seem to find a concrete listing of colors they offer.  Their Calypso Cosmedics webstore has some different prices and different colors than they show on both their facebook page and in their etsy store.  So that was a negative for me.

I have been applying these with my Studio Tools smudge brush (which I got from Target) over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in "Milk" to help them stick.  The colors are really really beautiful.  And for the most part, they've been pretty easy to work with.  Now, my favorite color would be "True Blue."  I mean, look at it.  But I noticed if I didn't pack it on, the color went more navy blue than the bright blue that you see in the container.  This is another color I completely believe is worth fighting for.  You really have to pack it on to get the same color on your lid that in the container.  Like really pack it on.  But I'm willing to do that.

I haven't had issues like that with the other colors.  Here are some looks I've done using these
"True Blue," "Sublime," "Lemon Sorbet"
"Drama"
I used "Matte Violet" and "Razzle Dazzle" and a little bit of the black for this
"True Blue", "Grape Pop", "Matte Violet"
Now here are some swatches of these colors vs other similar (or maybe not so much similar) colors
I was very impressed with this black.  It's really nice!

Gosh, it looks like someone here likes purples.  I think they're all great.  I love all of these colors (except the Inglot AMC's because they're just not favorites of mine).  The Calypso Minerals do not stain like Sugarpill and the MUFE shadows do.  That's because there are NO dyes added!  So they're perfect for anyone who has dye allergies!

Yeah, I really don't have any colors similar to the Calypso Minerals ones.  This was the best I could come up with.  Envy is the only color I have yet to use, which is weird because I LOVE olive greens.

Ahhh True Blue, what a beautiful color you are!
Besides True Blue so badly wanting to be navy blue, I still love it.  Also, I'm not sure if the particle size is a little bigger on True Blue but I have to take the sifter off of the container when I use it because I can't really get any out.  And Drama worked very well for me the one time I used it!

Again, I really don't have any colors like these Calypso Minerals colors.  I just figured I'd show them next to other colors so you could see the differences.  Lemon Sorbet is so much more of a wearable yellow than Buttercupcake.  It's much more subtle.  And Torrid is a GORGEOUS color!  I love the warmness of it.  I've used it like 3 times just by itself in the outer corners of my eyes, just for something simple but pretty.  And that Inglot shadow is the color I fill my brows in with.

And now the Lipthix I received
I have yet to use the one on the right.  It's a bit grey for me.  I've held it up to my face and it doesn't really look like it'd be that flattering.  So I didn't want to use it if I might give it away, you know?

LOVE this color!!! HATE the packaging!  It makes such a mess.  Without me even having to touch it.  I'll use some, clean up the tube, set it down, and when I come back an hour later, it's sitting in a little puddle of color. Very messy.  Not something I can carry around with me because it'll get all over everything.

This is a very light, cool toned pink.  It reminds me very much of a lighter version of MAC's Pink Friday lipstick.  I like this but I cannot wear it by itself.  It looks very very unnatural.

Love these under glosses but definitely not alone.  And you need only the littlest bit!  They're $10.  But they will last you forever!  I think I read somewhere that she can match any color you want her to, she just needs a sample.  I think that would be worth doing.  I've actually been considering it.  I've used these under other colors I think every day since I got them.

Overall, I would definitely 100% recommend these!  I love them.  Loose pigments are a bit different to work with than pressed shadows but that doesn't bother me.  Again, the color selection is a bit confusing, as are the prices but Jennifer got back to me very quickly with answers to my questions.  I'm a big fan of supporting small businesses as opposed to huge ones.  That's why I'd been looking around etsy for stuff.  I'm so glad I did!!!

But man, am I sick of typing haha.  I hope that helps someone if you've been looking at these.

Disclosure notice: I did purchase all of these products with my husband's own money (haha, I'm a stay at home mom).  Jennifer sent some extra products because that's another promotion type thing she does.

I'm doing a giveaway that's running until December 19th, 2011 at 10:00 pm (EST) so be sure to enter HERE!
